- Amazing 1902 Red Seal $10 National City Bank Note. Now CITIBANK!
Here's something you don't see every day. In fact, you might NEVER see another one let alone have another chance to buy it.
The First National City Bank of New York is 1 of the 2 most historic banks in New York City (the other one being Chase and its forerunners - we have Chase material, too. Please email).
NYC grew with the bank and vice versa and they are still inextricably linked - think Citibike or Citi Field.
In terms of Large Size National Bank Red Seal Notes which are ALL scarce to begin with, appearances of this bank note are few and far between due to high demand and practically NO supply. Which makes this offer just about as rare as this note!!
Dated 1902 and bearing the official portrait of President William McKinley who was assassinated 10 months earlier, it's signed by the Bank President and Cashier (it's also signed by the US Treasurer and Sec of the Treasury). It has a red US Treasury Seal and a red "E1461" in block letters/numbers. This was the bank's National Charter Number. The bank title appears in fancy type at the center. As awesome as the front, so is the deep green back. Lady Liberty stands guard over the Americas (where she had just taken control of Cuba, Puerto Rico and other parts of Latin America in addition to the Philippines). Within a lavishly ornate patriotic frame she is flanked by an ocean liner and a battle ship, representing growing U.S. reach, influence and power.
Almost Very Fine grade with some crispness remaining and color so bold you barely even notice the moderate folds and light surface wrinkles in the paper which is free of tears, splits, holes, pinholes, stains or pen marks.
The gift - or investment - of a lifetime.
